Launching June 10, 2024

We know it’s hard to makes friends, so we’re creating environments where friendship is probable.

Small Groups have one, simple purpose: to bring people together. We believe God created us to live in relationship with others and only then can we live the full life He intends for us. Sharing life through community is part of our design, but meaningful relationships aren’t always easy to find. That’s why Small Groups exist—to make these life-changing relationships relevant and accessible to you.

Our groups operate in three “seasons” - Fall, Spring, and Summer - making for plenty of opportunities to join or lead a group and try something new.

Leading a small group isn’t about being perfect; it’s about serving others by giving them a place to connect. Hosting a group is simple—choose a topic that interests you and select a time and location to meet with others to share it. We give you essential tools to make your small group successful through Leadership Training and a directory where you can register your group so others can find it easily. We believe people’s lives are changed one semester at a time by moving one step toward Christ, and as a small group leader you get to play an important role in that process.

If you are interested in leading, hosting, or helping with small groups, please fill out our form. One of the Kalos church leaders will contact you about the next steps and upcoming details. Thank you for wanting to make known the beauty of Jesus with us!

Leader FAQ

How do I sign up?

Fill out the form at kalos.church/groups. Even if you haven’t solidified your topic, location, or co-leader, let us know your intention, and we can help with the rest.

How long is the small group season?

Our upcoming Summer 2024 season will be from June 10th-July 28th.

Can I lead a group if I don’t attend Kalos?

We love your heart in wanting to serve God’s kingdom where that is! All Kalos small group leaders are required to attend Sunday morning service(s) and call Kalos their home church.

Does my group have to meet weekly? Can mine be biweekly or monthly?

We understand some schedules may not make it feasible for a weekly group, but we firmly believe meeting once a week encourages commitment & consistency, which deepens relationships in a significant way. Since our seasons are only 7-13 weeks long, the less frequent you meet, the more disconnect they will be & feel. At this time, we are only offering weekly groups.

I signed up; now what?

One of our leaders will reach out to you to go over your group details. In the meantime, please do the following:

  1. Attend our leader training on Wednesday 5/29/24 6-7pm. Dinner, beverages, & childcare will be provided. Please let leadership know if you (and your kids, if applicable) will be there so we can plan accordingly.

  2. Think & pray about who to co-lead with and reach out to them to see if they’re willing. Depending on the topic of the group, we may need to be part of that process.

  3. Determine what the group will be about. Books/curriculum/content MUST be approved before you can move forward. Send a link to Linda at the above email & she will let you know if it’s been approved.

  4. Plan the logistics of your group (with your co-leader/host, if applicable), such as location, time, & overview of what each night will look like. If you need help with a location, our leadership team will work with you with options.

How do I select a topic; are they assigned?

In the fall season we all do the same topic as an entire church.  The other (winter & summer) seasons, we have what we call “free market” groups. You can choose whatever interests you, whether that be an activity (cooking, soccer, golf, dance, art) or topic (Bible study, finance, photography).

Kalos Church has a subscription to Right Now Media where you can find many options for study groups, discussions, etc. and all are complete with video lessons and often a participant/leader guide to help you. Visit https://app.rightnowmedia.org/join/kalos to join our subscription & browse the library. All topics need to cover the entire season’s time frame.

All topics/content/material need to be submitted for leadership approval before you can start planning for your group.

What if I can’t find a place, but I want to lead?

Sign up at kalos.church/groups and let us know you don’t have a location. We will do our best to match you with someone willing to host your group. At this time, we are not able to have groups meet at our church building.

Is it required that I have a co-leader?

It isn’t required but HIGHLY encouraged. Co-leaders are very important to the success of a group. Shepherding people is not easy task. That’s why co-leaders are crucial. You have a partner to carry the spiritual load of the group, pray for your members, & coordinate scheduling/logistics. Should you become ill or need to travel, it ensures group can continue meeting.

Why do I have to sign a Code of Conduct and have a background check?

As a public-facing ministry, we want to ensure integrity in ministry, as well as safety for everyone involved. All volunteers, regardless of which team/department, are required to have a background check.

Kalos Church aims to be intergenerational. What does that mean? For events/groups/etc. to be available and accessible to people of all ages. In order to provide a safe space for members under 18 years old, we are required to have leaders background checked so our Youth Director can promote and invite kids/students to each and all groups (if applicable).

Background checks are only valid if they are run by Kalos Church. If Kalos Church has previously run one for you and it has not expired (over a year since), you will not need one again. If you are unsure, or have any questions, please reach out to the Small Groups department head.

All submissions are confidential and valid for one year.
